A new season is around the corner with some nice weather forecast coming up by the end of March and with the possibility of the summer scorching around 30-32 degrees according to UK Weather Forecast, we thought we would prepare you by talking about car roof boxes, The Thule Motion series that will make your leisure time and travelling a more comfortable one.

Firstly we would like to mention a new innovative roof box accessory that Thule has come out with, which is the "Thule Roof Box Internal Light".

Thule Light Box Thule Light Box

How many times have you been in a situation where you arrive at your destination late at night with one torch in your mouth trying to unload while it's poring down with rain. Well now you can finally unload your roof box at night with ease, with this uniquely designed light source that fits neatly inside the lid of the roof box. This small but powerful light will fit in all Thule roof boxes and activates automatically on opening and deactivates on closing the box.

Loading roof boxes can sometimes be hard especially when you are on a tight time schedule. How much can you load inside your box! With the Thule 8001 and 8002 Luggage Bags you can easily fill up the bags fully. Knowing the bars will easily fit your roof box without a worry.

We have a guide for the maximum amount of Thule Luggage Bags you can fit into each box type.

Motion 200 : 3 x 8002 and 1 x 8001

Motion 600 : 3 x 8002 and 1 x 8001

Motion 800 : 4 x 8002 and 1 x 8001

Motion 900 : 5 x 8002 and 1 x 8001

Sometimes it can be difficult to find out which size would be best suited for you and your vehicle, therefore we have created a page that will help make choosing your box size and model much easier. A note worth mentioning is that our guide is not an exact representation rather it's there to help you visualise it much better.

With roof boxes you have to ask yourself a couple of questions.

Do I only want to carry just a roof box, or do I also want to add bikes or even a kayak next to the box? If you are planing to add more than the roof box you need to find out how wide the roof bars are. You can find out which bar lengths you will need by following our Thule Roof Rack Guide Lets say as an example that the bars suitable for your vehicle are 135 cm long and you would like to carry a Motion 200 (67 cm wide). This means you will have 68cm of space left. This example is calculated using the optional T-Tracks as mounting rather then the included Power-Click mechanism. So now you can find out if you could fit your kayak or bikes next to the box, by measuring your kayak or other sports gear. As long as the total is less then the available space left over, you will be ok.

When planning on adding bike carriers next to your box a good reference would be that a single Thule ProRide 591 is 36 cm wide or two 591's staggered back to front next to each other would be 54 cm wide. The Thule OutRide 561 would be 21 cm and two 31 cm and with the Thule FreeRide 532 allow 21 cm for one carrier or two staggered at 33 cm.

Storing and lifting your roof box can in some situations be a hard task. The Thule Load Lifter 571 helps you in lifting and storing your roof box at the same time. The load lifter can also be used to load or unload kayaks, canoes or a whole range of other things you would place on top of your car.
