What is a Thule Fitting Kit for?

A Thule fitting kit that is specific to a particular vehicle and an essential component for securely attaching a Thule roof rack to the vehicle's roof. Thule fitting kits are often known as fitting kits, clamp kits or simply kits.  Here are some reasons why you need the correct Thule fitting kit.

Custom fit to the vehicle - Thule fitting kits are designed to provide a custom fit for a wide range of vehicle models.  Each vehicle has a unique roof shape and mounting points, and the fitting kit ensures that the Thule system is compatible and securely attached to your vehicle's roof.

Easy installation - Thule fitting kits are typically easy to install. They come with detailed instructions and all necessary parts to attach the roof rack to the vehicle, making the installation process straightforward.  One Kit will contain all the necessary parts to fit a pair of roof bars to the vehicle.

Versatility - Thule fitting kits allow you to, in many cases, adapt your Thule system to use on different vehicles such as if you own multiple cars or when you change your vehicle in the future.  In most cases each fitting kit is unique to a specific vehicle, however, the foot pack can often be adapted to suit multiple vehicles simply by replacing the fitting kit.

Thule Kits types - The three types of Thule fitting kits are Clamp Kits, Flush Rail Kits and Fixpoint Kits to suit the vehicle’s roof style.

Clamp kits attach into the door frames of the vehicle.  These Kits have a SKU of 145001 > 145***

     Clamp Kits

Flush Rail kits attach to vehicles with flush roof rails have a SKU between 186001 > 186***

      Flush Rail Kits

Fixpoint Kits attach to vehicles with roof mounted fixpoints and vehicle’s with t-tracks and have SKU’s between 187001 > 187***

      FixPoint Kits

There are a few exceptions where Flush Rail Kits have been adapted to fit vehicles with raised rails and Fixpoint Kits have been designed to fit to a vehicle’s flush roof rails, however this is fairly rare.  It’s also worth noting that Thule Fitting Kits are sometimes referred to using the full six digit SKU and other times shown with only the last four digits, the Kit will be the same however it is shown.

If unsure as to how the Kit attaches to your vehicle, it’s best to view the fitting kit user manual, which you can download from roofracks.co.uk.  Compare the Kit user manual with the fixtures on the roof of your vehicle to ensure you have the correct Kit.  The Kit user manual provides detailed illustrations of how the Kit attaches to the vehicle along with the Kit contents.  There's often safety guidelines concerning the maximum roof load limit and advice regarding vehicles with glass roofs.

Fully Tested - Before Thule makes a fitting kit available it will have been tried and tested to extremes on the vehicle model that it is designed for.  Not only will it fit the roof perfectly but you can drive completely safe in the knowledge that your roof bars are securely attached to the roof.  It is vitally important that only the correct fitting kit is used.  Under no circumstances should it be attempted to use a roof rack with a kit that was designed for another model or make of car, even if it appears to be ok.  The consequences of this can result in damage to the car roof or the load coming adrift or even worse.
