One of the best-built, safest, strongest, and most robust dog crates on the market right now is the new Thule Allax model. This product is exceptional in every way, providing your four-legged best friend with years and years of secure travelling.
The UK Highway Code was updated in January 2022 to include safe carriage of dogs and other pets in a vehicle. It states that your dog or pet must be suitably restrained, so that there is no likelihood of distracting the driver or causing injury to the occupants or animal. It suggests using a seat belt harness, a dog cage or crate, a pet carrier or dog guard as ways of restraining animals in the car. In our opinion the dedicated dog crate, such as the Allax, is far and away the safest and most convenient method of all.
The Allax XXL is 780mm wide x 750mm high and adjustable in length between 1030 and 1200mm. All parts have rounded edges for safety. The specification also includes several other superior convenience and safety features such as:- gas dampened door with security lock, a window for your dog's comfort as well as being able to keep a check on your dog whilst travelling. Tensioning bands are included to secure the crate to the car floor. Several useful Allax accessories are also available that are designed to enhance the dog carrying experience.
A unique safety feature of the Allax crate is the provision of a rear opening rear wall on all sizes. This means your dog can still be easily accessed from the rear end of the crate should the front door become inaccessible.
Finally, all Thule Allax models have been rigorously tested by Thule's engineers at their state of the art testing facility in Sweden. Tests include crash tests, wear and tear, durability and driving tests to ensure the crate remains stable under extreme adverse driving conditions.
Choosing the correct size dog crate is vitally important for your dog's comfort, safety and well-being. The crate should therefore provide sufficient space for your dog to sit, stand, turn around and lay down in a natural position. However, it shouldn't be too large that your dog can slide or be tossed around.
Luckily there are 10 sizes of Allax crates to choose from; so it shouldn't be a problem finding the right one for your dog. If you are in any doubt as to which one to go for, please let us know and we can check our in-house database to see if the one that you have chosen will be a suitable match for your vehicle.
First of all, measure the height of your dog from the ground up to his or her withers, which is the point just above the shoulder blades. Then match the wither height to the crate size as shown in the table below. eg. If your dog's wither height is 53 cm then you should choose either an Allax L or L Compact.
Once you have determined the correct crate size, check that it is going to be ok for your car. The way to do this is to compare the crate dimensions, shown below, against the size of your boot area.
As you will see, the depth measurements for all crates are fully adjustable to suit the size of your boot. This means that the crate frame can be lengthened or shortened, as required, to the minimum or maximum dimensions shown.
